Doug Siegel, a partner in the firm, concentrates his practice on biotech patent prosecution, trademark prosecution, and intellectual property litigation.
Mr. Siegel has represented clients in matters involving patent, trademark, trade dress, copyright, and trade secrets in federal and state courts and administrative tribunals, including the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences and the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board. Prior to joining the firm in 1996, Mr. Siegel gained extensive litigation experience while operating his own law firm in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and at a nationally recognized patent firm in Chicago, Illinois. Further, he has prepared patent applications and opinions in biotechnology areas including: molecular diagnostics (immunoassays, microarrays), medicinal chemistry (drugs), laboratory devices (transcription analytics, microarray components), and plant biotechnology (PCR assays).
Mr. Siegel received J.D. and B.S. degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an M.S. in cell and molecular biology from Michigan State University. Mr. Siegel is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and is admitted to the bars of Michigan, Illinois, and Wisconsin and several federal District Court and Circuit Court bars. He also is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (Biotechnology and Litigation sections), the Michigan Patent Law Association, the Intellectual Property Law Association of Chicago (Biotechnology Committee), the Association for Corporate Growth, and the Grand Rapids Bar Association.
