Jeff Kapteyn has over 25 years of legal experience, and counsels small businesses, start-ups, universities, government agencies, and multinational corporate clients on all aspects of patent and trademark matters. He handles patent searching, patent drafting, and all stages of utility and design patent prosecution. He also handles trademark searching, applications, and trademark prosecution.

Jeff has significant experience in a wide range of technologies. Amongst others, he has handled patent applications for LIDAR systems, composite materials and manufacturing processes, various sensors and systems, office furniture, medical devices, refrigeration systems and components, molding processes, semiconductor manufacturing processes, metal forming tools and processes, 3D printing processes, surface treatment processes, acoustic noise reduction technologies, aerodynamic devices, laser calibration systems, automotive components, bearings, electronic vehicle systems, control systems including fuzzy logic control systems, engineering software, exercise devices, X-ray systems, and filtration systems.

Prior to joining Price Heneveld in 1996, Jeff worked as an engineer for Hughes Aircraft Corporation, where he analyzed satellite components and systems. Prior to earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees in engineering, he worked in the Tool and Die trade, and he has several years of hands on experience making jigs, fixtures, dies, and other tools used in various manufacturing processes.

Jeff is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and he is also admitted to the State Bar of Michigan. He is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, the Licensing Executives Society, and the Grand Rapids Bar Association. Jeff is also the Chief Diversity Officer and chairs the firm’s Diversity Committee.
