Price Heneveld partner Michael Hages to speak on design patents at the 2019 AIPLA Annual Meeting

As a part of a joint concurrent track presentation on “The State of Design Rights” at the 2019 Annual Meeting of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA), Price Heneveld partner Michael Hages will discuss anticipated Patent Office treatment of recent Federal Circuit and Patent Trial and Appeal Board decisions regarding design patents. Mr. Hages will also describe best practices for maximizing enforceability and maintaining efficient prosecution of design applications going forward. The presentation will also include an extensive overview of recent design patent case law, an update of design patent damages and related best practices, and a discussion of ethical considerations in design patent practice.

Mr. Hages is the chair of the subcommittee for USPTO Prosecution and Practice for the AIPLA committee on Industrial Designs. Having studied industrial design at the professional and graduate levels, he has a unique understanding of product and interaction design, including 3-D and 2-D visual design, design research, and strategic development.
